Artistic Director

Mills Robert - has made immeasurable contributions to the growth of Oklahoma City Ballet. In just seven years Mr. Mills has added over 40 works to the repertoire, eight of these are his own creations including full scale story ballets like Romeo and Juliet and Beauty and the Beast plus contemporary works like Pushing Pennies. In addition he has added classic works like Swan Lake and Paquita Grand pas Classique, plus works by historically significant choreographers of the 20th Century including George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor and Gerald Arpino. With a desire to ensure the company be at the forefront of creating new work for the 21st century, he has also commissioned new ballets from some of the industry’s most creative contemporary choreographers. Since he began in 2008, the number of dancers in the company has more than doubled, the number of performances has doubled and the annual budget of the organization has tripled. Originally from Northwest Indiana near the heart of Chicagoland, Robert began formal training in gymnastics at the age of seven and soon after shifted his focus to dance. He studied in Chicago, concentrating on ballet with renowned pedagogue and author Anna Paskevska, with former soloists of London’s Royal Ballet Richard Ellis and Christine DuBoulay, and at the Ruth Page Foundation with Larry Long. While in Chicago he also studied modern dance with some of the city’s best instructors. He received further training in ballet with full scholarships from the Milwaukee Ballet School, Richmond Ballet, The Rock School in Philadelphia and the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City.
